Okaloosa County was founded June 13, 1915. Okaloosa was created by taking area from Santa Rosa and Walton Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Okaloosa had a population of 211,411 people. This is an increase of 16.92% since the last Census (which gave a population of 180,822 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Okaloosa represented 0.96% of the total population of Florida.
