Miami-Dade County was founded January 18, 1836. Miami-Dade was created by taking area from Monroe and Saint Lucie Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Miami-Dade had a population of 2,711,612 people. This is an increase of 8.62% since the last Census (which gave a population of 2,496,435 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Miami-Dade represented 13.28% of the total population of Florida.
