Lake County was founded May 27, 1887. Lake was created by taking area from Orange and Sumter Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Lake had a population of 366,941 people. This is an increase of 23.53% since the last Census (which gave a population of 297,052 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lake represented 1.58% of the total population of Florida.
