The 2000 Census shows that Cocoa Beach has a total area of 15.04 square miles [38.95 km²]^<4>. Of this total, 4.89 square miles [12.67 km²] of the area is land, with the balance (67.5%) being water (10.15 square miles [26.29 km²]).

Using the above population and land area values, Cocoa Beach had a 2000 population density of 2,552 people per square mile [6,609 people/km²], making it the state's 171st most densely populated area.

The county had a population of 477,723 people at the 2000 Census. With it's population of 12,482 people, Cocoa Beach accounted for 2.61% of the Brevard County total.
