At the time of the 2010 Census, Fort Collins had a population of 143,986 people (or 48.05% of the total population of Larimer County). This makes Fort Collins the county's most populous community.

The population of Fort Collins represents 2.86% of the total population of Colorado (which has 5,029,196 people), making it the state's 4th most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Fort Collins was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Fort Collins post office opened in 1865.
