At the time of the 2010 Census, San Diego had a population of 1,307,402 people (or 42.24% of the total population of San Diego County). This makes San Diego the county's most populous community.

The population of San Diego represents 3.51% of the total population of California (which has 37,253,956 people), making it the state's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,307,402 people, the population of San Diego increased 6.87% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 1,223,400 people).
