At the time of the 2010 Census, Hayward had a population of 144,186 people (or 9.55% of the total population of Alameda County). This makes Hayward the county's 3rd most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hayward was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Hayward post office opened in 1911.
