The origin (or the toponymy) of Folsom: Named for Joseph L. Folsom (1817-1855), a real estate investor and founder of Folsom.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Folsom had an population of 80,689 people. This is an increase of 11.75% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 55.52% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Folsom had a population of 72,203 people (which is 5.09% of the total population of Sacramento County). This makes Folsom the county's 4th most populous community.

The population of Folsom represents 0.19% of the total population of California (which has 37,253,956 people), making it the state's 110th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 72,203 people, the population of Folsom increased 39.16% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 51,884 people).
