At the time of the 2010 Census, Encinitas had a population of 59,518 people. This makes Encinitas the county's 9th most populous community.

The population of Encinitas represents 0.16% of the population of California (which has 37,253,956 people), making it the state's 140th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 59,518 people, the population of Encinitas increased 2.59% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 58,014 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Encinitas was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Encinitas post office opened in 1887.
