Ventura County was founded in 1872 and was created by taking area from Santa Barbara County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Ventura had a population of 844,203 people. This is an increase of 2.54% since the last Census (which gave a population of 823,318 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Ventura represented 2.21% of the total population of California.
