At the time of the 2010 Census, Hughes had a population of 1,441 people (which is 5.1% of the total population of Saint Francis County). This makes Hughes the county's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,441 people, the population of Hughes decreased 22.82% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,867 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hughes was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Hughes post office opened in 1913.
