At the time of the 2010 Census, Hoover had a population of 81,619 people (or 12.4% of the total population of Jefferson County). This makes Hoover the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Hoover represents 1.71% of the total population of Alabama (which has 4,779,736 people), making it the state's 6th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 81,619 people, the population of Hoover increased 30.09% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 62,742 people).
