Marion County was founded in 1818 and was created by taking area from Tuscaloosa County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Marion had a population of 29,826 people. This is a decrease of 3.09% since the last Census (which gave a population of 30,776 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Marion represented 0.64% of the total population of Alabama.
