Hale County was founded in 1867. Hale was created by taking area from Greene, Marengo, Perry and Tuscaloosa Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Hale had a population of 14,669 people. This is a decrease of 6.92% since the last Census (which gave a population of 15,760 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hale represented 0.33% of the total population of Alabama.
